The Aegis-class light assault transports are some of the oldest ships still in commission, although only a handful still exist. It carries two complete companies of Tech Infantry soldiers, along with eight AT-14 Skyranger Assault Pinnaces to land them on a hostile surface. This is the smallest class to have other options for dropping troops onto a planet, also carrying a small Transit Beacon and sixteen Drop Pod launch tubes. While not heavily armed, this ship is not entirely helpless in a battle, equipped with a few Box Launchers for Lance Torpedoes several light Particle Phalanxes. In addition, it can support its troops on the ground with Kinetic Interdiction Strikes from its two twin Mass Drivers.

Behind the Scenes[]

The EFS Aegis Fang was the very first ship named in Tech Infantry, way back in Season One. Apparently it was named for a famous Warhammer from the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons and Dragons. Or maybe it was the EFS Aegis Blade, named for a lightsaber-like weapon from Warhammer 40,000. Either way, our memory is hazy over a decade later. The actual design for the ship was created four years later by Mike Turner and Martin Hohner for Season 4.3 in 2001.
