Gauss turret

A vehicle-mounted Gauss Gun

A generalized term for a variety of handheld weapons, from pistols to rifles, which fire a metallic projectile by use of magnetic fields.  More specifically, Gauss Guns use a monopolar magnetic field behind the breech end of a non-magnetic barrel to fire a magnetically-charged projectile with a single electromagnetic pulse. Sometimes used (incorrectly) to refer to any magnetic-induction projectile weapon.  See also Coilgun and Railgun.
